The 95-year-old World War II veteran joined Fox News yesterday morning with his granddaughter to discuss his time in the service and a coronavirus survivor. Kelly serves as a positive story and reminder that this pandemic is not an automatic death sentence, even for a 95-year-old.
Kelly went into service for the United States when he and his friends were only juniors and seniors in high school. Kelly and his friends enlisted as a patriotic response to Pearl Harbor. The American hero explained his symptoms as starting with fatigue and low appetite. His granddaughter noticed his exhaustion and said he complained of body aches, so she took him to the hospital.
Doctors tested for coronavirus on Kelly only because the granddaughter’s husband is a medivac who has been transporting COVID patients. Kelly tested positive but says he got plenty of rest and obeyed doctors’ and nurses’ requirements which were to keep a positive attitude. Kelly says, “a lot of risk is psychological in the person’s mind and to have a negative attitude does affect them” and he credits his positive attitude to get him through. Thankfully the war hero says although he is still a little tired, he is gaining strength “day by day.”
