CIA Believes China Attempted to Delay WHO Announcing COVID a ‘Public Health Emergency Of International Concern’

Newsweek confirmed details from a CIA report with two U.S. intelligence officials about China and its relationship with the World Health Organization.

The CIA report, titled “U.N.-China: WHO Mindful But Not Beholden to China,” indicates China was stockpiling medical supplies from around the world while at the same time trying “to prevent the alarm on the coronavirus outbreak in January” according to Newsweek. Most notably, the report supposedly asserts “China threatened the WHO that the country would stop cooperating with the agency’s coronavirus investigation if the organization declared a global health emergency.”

Germany’s news magazine Der Spiegel published a German intelligence assessment with similar conclusions just last week. The assessment professed Chinese President Xi Jinping “personally” applied pressure on the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on January 21.

The World Health Organization gave an odd response when questioned by Newsweek as to Chinese officials’ involvement. “We don’t comment on specific discussions with member states, but we can say that at all times during the pandemic WHO has acted in accordance with its mandate as an evidence-based technical organization focusing on protecting all people, everywhere,” WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier said. Well, that doesn’t answer that.

When it came to an acknowledgment of talks with China’s president, Lindmeier said, “Dr. Tedros did not communicate with President Xi on Jan 20, 21, or 22. Dr. Tedros and his senior team met with President Xi in Beijing on Jan 28.” In regard to whether or not China attempted to delay WHO’s announcement of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), Lindmeier said “it did not come up” in the Jan 28 meeting.

The World Health Organization’s suspiciously defensive actions to protect China is something President Trump has been vocal about for months. Trump has deemed the WHO as “China-centric” and suspended its funding in March. “What World Health got away with is unbelievable. They’re a pipe organ for China” Trump said last week.
