Democratic Governor of Connecticut, Ned Lamont, made an irresponsible claim earlier this week regarding the U.S. Strategic National Stockpile of medical supplies.
“It was disturbing today to find out that the national strategic stockpile is now empty. We did get 50 ventilators, for which I am very thankful” said Lamont. He continued his pathetic sermon saying, “for now we are on our own. For now, we are doing the best to scour the globe for PPE (personal protective equipment) as best we can.”
First of all, that’s neither the type of leadership nor the rhetoric that is needed to lead the United States of America. Sadly, Trump had to take time to clean up the mess Lamont’s words made. During the Coronavirus Task Force press briefing, Trump explained exactly what is happening. “It’s not emptied, let me explain something. What we’re doing…rather than having it brought into the stockpile, where appropriate… we’re trying to have supplies sent directly to the states.”
“Because we don’t want medical supplies coming into warehouses all over the place and then we take them from there and bring them to another warehouse. So we’re having them brought, ideally, from the manufacturer directly to the hospital or the state where it’s going” Trump continued. What Lamont conveniently failed to mention was the condition in which the Obama administration left the Stockpile.
In his press conference, Trump also mentioned the Strategic National Stockpile was “virtually empty.” During the H1N1 pandemic, the Obama administration reportedly depleted the N95 respirator masks and the medical supplies were not replenished. Details Governor Lamont did not have time to consider when falsely laying claims to the American people.
