When a Republican Congressional Committee employee asked Democratic Representative Collin Peterson why he defended Omar’s 9/11 comments that “some people did something” his answer was surprising.
“Do you have any comment as to why you defended Ilhan Omar?” asked the employee. “I don’t defend her. She doesn’t belong in our party” Peterson responded. The employee asked him to clarify, he once again repeated, “she doesn’t belong in our party.” Peterson is a 16-term lawmaker and could indicate an internal battle between Democrats and the new progressive members.
Peterson did defend Omar last April by saying, “I think she was trying to say that some people in her community feel like they’re being targeted.” But defending Omar’s minimizing the September 11 terror attacks leaving 3,000 people dead as “some people did something” should never have been accepted.
Since her “did something” statement, “the 37-year-old earlier this year married her political consultant, with whom she was accused of having an affair” reported the New York Post. A big year for the Somali born representative, the Post also revealed she “funneled nearly $1 million of campaign cash to her husband Tim Mynett’s firm for his services.”
Let’s not forget about the accusation that she even married her own brother in order to allow him to get a green card. She has “vehemently denied” the rumor, but “the FBI is reportedly reviewing” it now, according to the Post. Although it is “unclear why Omar and Peterson have fallen out” despite having voted together on issues like police reform in the past, his newfound dislike of Omar “may be an attempt to distance himself from the progressive left flank of his party as he braces for a brutal challenge from GOP candidate, former Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Michelle Fischbach.
