We have read the vile things people have said and written in response to my stay at home, stay safe order. My daughters have seen the likeness of their mother hung from a noose in effigy” Whitmer has said.
Despite all those horrible fears and attacks the family faces, somehow her husband took it upon himself to “get a laugh.” Except it’s quite clear that Whitmer’s defense of her husband’s “failed attempt at humor” is nothing more than covering up for their elitist behavior.
Let’s start at the beginning. The owner of NorthShore Dock LLC, Tad Dowker, wrote about an interesting conversation between Whitmer’s husband and one of his employees on his Facebook page:
So today put a smile on my face, as most of you know we install docks, store boats, etc. This morning I was out working when the office called me, there was a gentleman on hold who wanted his boat in the water before the weekend. Being Memorial Day weekend and the fact that we started working 3 weeks late means there is no chance this is going to happen.
Well, our office personnel had explained this to the man and he replied, ‘I am the husband to the Governor, will this make a difference.’ As you can imagine it does make a difference, that would put you to the back of the line!!! Needless to say, our Governor and her husband will not be getting their boat for memorial day. Too good not to share, I love it when karma comes around, even if just in small doses.
Likely the Karma Dowker is referencing, is Whitmer’s statewide stay-at-home order issued on March 23. At a press conference on May 18, Whitmer discussed plans to lightly lift restrictions ahead of Memorial Day, but said of popular weekend and holiday destinations, “if you don’t live in these regions…think long and hard before you take a trip into them.”
Governor Whitmer; it is not perception, it’s reality.
“A small spike could put the hospital system in dire straits pretty quickly…that’s precisely why we’re asking everyone to continue doing their part. Don’t descend on Traverse City from all regions of the state.” The boat Whitmer’s husband wanted in the water is held at their lakeside cabin worth around $500,000. That cabin is only 25 minutes from Traverse City, the exact place the governor told people to think long and hard about before visiting.
We give governor Whitmer credit for confronting the matter head-on, although she made it worse. “My husband made a failed attempt at humor last week when checking in with the small business that helps with our boat and dock up north. Knowing it wouldn’t make a difference, he jokingly asked if being married to me might move him up in the queue.” No one believes that for a second. Why drop a public figure’s name and risk a potential media spectacle, exactly what it turned into if one didn’t think it would “make a difference?”
Whitmer then goes on to explain her own policy which made the scenario even more insulting. “Obviously with the motorized boating prohibition in our early days of COVID he thought it might get a laugh. It didn’t.” Your husband is moronic enough to believe he could get a laugh from a small business who has suffered due to your leadership? Whitmer added, “to be honest I wasn’t laughing either when it was relayed to me because I knew how it would be perceived.”
Governor Whitmer; it is not perception, it’s reality.
