Alexandria Ocasio Cortez’s (AOC) hypocrisy has been on full display alongside her comrade Bernie Sanders as they travel luxuriously despite building their political brands on fighting climate change and condemning the wealthy elite. The two proud socialists have been caught repeatedly using luxury private jets, transportation that environmentalists scream is both environmentally damaging and wildly expensive.
According to the New York Post, footage broadcast by Fox News showed the two prominent advocates for economic equality arriving in style on a Bombardier Challenger 604, a luxury jet valued at up to $7 million and costing approximately $15,000 per hour to charter, a sum far out of reach for the average American and starkly at odds with their rhetoric about economic fairness.
The sight of the two anti-oligarchy campaigners using such an expensive mode of travel struck many as ironic, given their frequent criticism of private jets and the lifestyles of the ultra-wealthy.
Ocasio-Cortez, known for her environmental activism and vocal opposition to wealth inequality, was seen leaving the aircraft alongside Sanders. The pair are currently touring the country, holding “Fighting Oligarchy” rallies designed to spark conversations about the outsized influence of corporate interests and billionaires in American politics, according to their campaign website.
Despite the high cost of their travel, the tour’s official site describes its travel budget as requiring only “a modest amount of resources” and solicits donations from supporters. The site also takes a swipe at billionaires, noting the tour is “Paid for by friends of Bernie Sanders (not the billionaires).”
Their multi-city tour includes stops in Tucson, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Nampa (Idaho), and Bakersfield (California), where they speak to enthusiastic crowds about the dangers of extreme wealth and income inequality.
“We as a community must choose and vote for Democrats and elected officials who know how to stand for the working class,” AOC said at one rally, according to The Post.
This isn’t the first time AOC’s travel choices have raised eyebrows. Last month, she was spotted flying first-class on JetBlue from New York to Las Vegas for a similar event, with tickets on that route costing over $1,100.
Senator Sanders has also faced scrutiny for his travel habits. During President Trump’s impeachment trial in 2020, he chartered a private jet, and Federal Election Commission filings show his campaign spent over $221,000 on private flights in the first quarter of 2025 alone.
